This Is Why We Like the Daily Show More Than "Real" News...

"It's not that the Democrats are playing checkers while the Republicans are playing chess. It's that the Republicans are playing chess and the Democrats are in the nurse's office because, once again, they glued their balls to their thighs."

--Jon Stewart

I promise I'll post something about my time in SA soon. It's just that nothing I'm trying to come up with now is interesting, funny, uplifting, or anything else enough to justify it in this currently crazier-than-usual world.

Earthquake in Haiti

I kept meaning to write once I returned to Cape Town after Christmas, but I didn't really have anything to say. Then, this earthquake happened in Haiti, and I felt a little silly writing about concerts and drinking wine and getting into fender benders (even if life goes on). So, I still have little to say.

I'm no expert in Haitian politics and history, but from what I do know, it seems like a place that can't ever catch a break. I keep thinking about the recent (smaller) earthquake that happened in Northern California, and how little damage there was in comparison to the photos I've seen of Port-Au-Prince.

If you would like to donate to earthquake relief efforts, Partners in Health, Doctors Without Borders (MSF), and the International Committee of the Red Cross are good places to do so. Many thanks.
