Pieces on the Middle East (and North Africa)

Thought I'd take a moment to showcase my friend Jack's post on the ONE blog. It's about links between food (in)security and the political unrest across the Middle East-North Africa region.

Also, an article in Foreign Policy about humor and politics--which is apparently an Egyptian pastime since the pharaohs and has taken a particularly interesting turn under Mubarak's 30-year rule. I love the bit about the Romans outlawing all Egyptian advocates because they cracked too many jokes. Killjoys, those Romans.

Knowing very little about the background to all of this, I hesitate to write more about what's going on. I'm just following the news as best as I can.
